Design & Technology Department.
QEH School, Bristol

QEH Collina.png

This project provided a new learning environment for students studying Design and Technology at QEH. This comprises a refitted workshop and a new dedicated computer-aided design studio allowing QEH to expand the learning opportunities within the DT curriculum.

Collina was responsible for the complete M&E design, including new ventilation, LED lighting, Small Power, Radiant Heating and Data.

The space was designed with energy efficiency and flexibility in mind. The low suspended ceilings were removed allowing suspended radiant heating panels and LED lighting to be installed giving the DT classroom more available wall space for the school to utilise. The new energy efficient lighting has significantly reduced the energy consumption within the space and provides a high-quality working environment.

John Wood Complex, University of Bath

Collina was appointed to undertake refurbishment of John Wood Court Blocks on behalf of Bath University. The buildings comprise of existing student accommodation blocks set around a central courtyard in the centre of Bath including a new social space.
Collina carried out extensive energy modelling of the site to ensure the most energy efficient & sustainable systems were installed.

John Wood building is the first accommodation block where the University utilised air source heat pump technology to reduce energy & carbon emissions.
The refurbishment was designed to reduce heating load, reduce plant size and as a result reduce operating/running costs for the University while being robust enough to be maintained for the next 10 years.
